Galway Academy makes available a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) online course that can help you to acquire English language skills at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level.
This ESL online course has been created to be flexible, so that you can study whenever and wherever it is convenient for you using your desktop computer, laptop computer, tablet or smartphone with Internet access.
In today’s world, being able to speak, read, write and understand the English language at a proficient level or better makes it easier for a person to acquire additional knowledge, conduct business and travel abroad, since English is the international language widely-used around the globe.
This is why Galway Academy offers online English language courses that can benefit people with different levels of English abilities, ranging from beginners who speak little or no English up to professionals with advanced levels of English language skills.
The online ESL course has various components and the English level is indicated using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale which is divided into six levels of English language proficiency and grouped into three major categories:
- A-level indicates a Basic User of the English language (i.e., beginner)
- B-level indicates an Independent User of the English language (i.e., intermediate)
- C-level indicates a Proficient User of the English language (i.e., advanced)
The higher the English level (i.e., A-level, B-level or C-level) of the ESL online course, the more advanced the vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening materials are.
These online English courses have been designed by experienced language-learning professionals to effectively help students to learn and improve their skills to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Each level of the ESL online course includes the:
- Students’ Book Audio Component (10 audio units and corresponding written scripts)
- Workbook Audio Component (10 audio units and corresponding written scripts)
- Video Component (10 videos and corresponding written scripts)
- Word List Component (over 500 words and phrases with definitions and examples)
- Smartphone App to Practice English (download for Android or iOS)
- English Lab (10 units to improve vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading and writing)
- Students’ Book Reader (reading exercises based on many topics)
In addition to the different components discussed above, this ESL online course also includes a 30-minute online video conference session with an experienced tutor once a week for eight weeks to help you practice your English language skills (the ESL online course coordinator will contact you to help schedule your online tutoring sessions).
Supplementary materials will also be provided to help you further enhance your English language skills.
After you finish each level of the ESL online course, you will receive a Galway Academy Certificate of Completion.
